Under a veil of stars –
the soles of my holey Vans resting against a fire pit
one hand holding my body weight against desert sand
the other absorbing condensation from a cold Blue Moon –
your words pierced through the flames occupying my mind.
I have no secrets.
And as you spoke the fire exhaled
as if releasing tension hidden in the blue
center of its soul
and I felt the desert floor harden below me
as the starry veil fell from the sky,
wrapping me into a narrow straightjacket.

and I am left trembling between hardened ground and fallen sky.
